What is Thatch???
Thatch is mostly dead grass that builds up on top of the soil that your grass is rooted in, and forms a thick layer on the soil. Thatch builds up naturally over time and prevents essential nutrients from penetrating the soil and roots of your lawn. Aerating your lawn helps with thatch by opening up the lawn by spiking holes in the lawn that allow nutrients to penetrate below the surface of the lawn. Dethatching works complimentary with aerating by pulling up this thick coat of dead grass so that essential nutrients such as sun, water, oxygen, seed, and fertilizer can penetrate the lawn. When you have a thick layer of thatch on your lawn, most of the nutrients you give your lawn will not penetrate the soil, and therefore will blow off, be eaten by animals, etc. Even if you bag the lawn clippings when you cut your grass, thatch will build up overtime. You would be amazed at how much thatch our machine will pull up!
We offer two options for dethatching!
If you are looking to save some money, we can simply run our high quality dethatcher over your lawn, which will pull up the thatch, and leave it for you to rake and bag.
Otherwise, we do the complete job of dethatching your lawn and raking (and bagging) the thatch.
